Subtle Makeup ….

For me, the type of foundation I wear really depends on what kind of skin day I am having. I try to stick to my skincare routine and drink a lot of water. When I am having a good skin day I don’t really feel like wearing much makeup and so for me powder foundation is the perfect way to celebrate! Minimal makeup feels like a dream on my face – lightweight and barely there. I wanted to share with you why I’ve been loving the occasional light dust of powder instead of my higher coverage liquid foundation as of late….

Powder can be subtly buildable. I love having something on my face but when I only want a fine sprinkling of foundation, powder is perfect. You can build it up to a higher coverage if you like too! Just be careful that your skin is well moisturised as power can be slightly drying. Apply an oil into your skincare routine and your face will feel ready to take on that makeup!

I feel like powder does not clog up my pores too much either. At a weekend, it is nice to spend time visiting friends and family and going for relaxing walks. A low-key foundation look can be great for those times where I am wearing makeup for quite a few hours of the day and hence I do not have to worry about aggravating my skin by drowning it in makeup. I tend to set my makeup with a light dusting of powder anyway and by using powder as my first step, this eliminates extra build-up of product and so my skin can breathe that little bit more.

I’ve been using my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder in Light Beige and I am really impressed with it’s buildability. This mineral powder is great for my sensitive skin and the packaging is simple yet elegant. It’s great for that natural look and that relaxed weekend vibe. It’s also great for violin teaching when I don’t want to wear heavy makeup in front of children! I’m sure I’ll be continuing my use of more casual makeup up days throughout the warmer seasons too! Powder is great at keeping that matte vibe lasting on hot summer days. I’m also certain that come summer I will want my skin to breathe more anyway!

Lately I’ve been teaming my more natural base with a subtle blusher, tiny dot of concealer, one lid wonder eyeshadow and a little mascara. I’ve finished off the look with a nude lip gloss or lipstick and a dash of brow tamer.
