April Skincare Routine

Over the last few years I have been developing a skincare routine and finding out which type of products my skin loves…. AND which products it doesn’t. I thought I would share with you my current routine and maybe update you every month or so if it changes and which products I have been trialling. I have dry/sensitive skin. I did think I’d grown out of my sensitive skin but after a little skin meh last year I have learnt that I definitely have not.

Morning Routine…

I start the day my washing my face with a drugstore face wash. Yes! No snazzy cleanser. I guess I just like saving my pennies where I can and I have found some great face washes that my skin adores. I tend to stick to a Simple or Olay face wash as they are gentle and nourishing for my skin. Every 2-3 days I also use a face scrub before washing my face with my usual cleanser. I just find the extra wash helps to get all that scrub off and makes my face feel fresh. I love the St Ives Apricot scrub for sensitive skin. It smells lovely and is great for giving me a subtle exfoliation. I try not to exfoliate my face too much as this can irritate sensitive skin.

After I have washed and dried my face I apply a serum. I used to skip this step but have found it just adds that extra hydration that I think my skin was lacking last year. My go to product is the Bare Minerals Skinlongevity Serum Essence. If I run out this stuff I go into a little panic as I think this is doing my skin the world of good. It just feels more hydrated and glowing after. I then apply my L’Occitane eye cream with my ring fingers, gently patting it in as the skin around the eye area is delicate. I finish with a moisturiser. At the moment, I am loving the Ren Global Protection Day Cream.

Evening routine…

In the evening, I have been loving removing my makeup with the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water. I use cotton pads to do so as I find it easier and less messy than a face cloth. They also act as a little extra exfoliation. I then wash my face as per my morning routine. I don’t use a face scrub in the evening.

Every week I apply a face mask. I tend to reach for a hydrating one unless I am having any skin problems. I love The Body Shop Honey and Oat mask but unfortunately they have stopped selling it. Luckily, I still have some left! What face masks would people recommend when I run out of this one?

After my face is clean and pampered, I use the serum essence and eye cream again. If my skin is particularly dry I swap the serum essence for my NUXE Face Oil. I only do this on pampering nights though as I find it too much for everyday use. For night time I go in with a richer moisturiser. At the moment, I am using the Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser and so far I am loving the results! It feels thick and nourishing – like a proper hearty moisturiser!

There you go! This is my skincare routine at the moment! I hope you enjoyed this post. I tend not to change my skincare routine too frequently as since having a bad reaction to a product last year, I like to pinpoint the product that isn’t suitable for me before I test any others. My friend Sally swears by only changing one item in her skincare routine at a time and I have started doing this too! Great advice! It is really tempting to get over excited when buying new beauty products but try to rein yourself in! Make sure you remove your makeup EVERY evening and cleanse your face morning and night too! I also swear by drinking LOADS of water. It isn’t hard for me though as I just love the stuff. Skin can be unpredictable and although I do not have perfect skin (I still have the odd blemish… don’t we all!), I try to do as much as possible to look after it. Your diet is also important so get eating those greens!
