Books to help mental health at Christmas

Mental health is so important, particularly this time of year when things can be a little hectic. I don’t need to mention why this year is tougher than ever for people, me included. I’m sure there are so many of us in the same boat and it’s important to look after yourself and others during this time. When the world seems constantly full of surprises it can be hard to keep focused sometimes. That’s where tools and aids come in to add some light during this time. I thought it would be nice to list 4 books that are great to help people suffering during this time of year. I have found these to be of great comfort, especially recently. Whether they are for yourself or for a Christmas gift to help another, I couldn’t recommend them enough.

Mindfulness A Practical Guide To Finding Peace In A Frantic World

This book is amazing as it goes through various CBT techniques and meditation therapy. There are meditation exercises included on a CD and they are really amazing. The programme builds up gradually. Ironically, I was using it before COVID started. When COVID started to progress, this book got me through, so I am so grateful for it allowing me to get through the challenging workdays at that time.

Sarah Wilson First We Make The Beast Beautiful

This book is lovely to read as it is full of wisdom and techniques to help with anxiety and other mental health disorders. I haven’t read all of it yet, but it is refreshing to read about another person and what she has been through. Sometimes you feel so alone in your opinions and feelings that anxiety can be so isolating. It can be hard when there are both internal and external barriers to overcome and it is nice to have this book as a helping hand.

Haemin Sunim Love For Imperfect Things

This book is beautifully written about words of wisdom and rational thinking. There is so much calmness and tranquillity about this book and it is full of exerts as well as quotes and other gems. The illustrations are beautiful too and it is such a magical book. The focus on this book is self-love and learning to love yourself so you can love others better. Buddhist monk Haemin Sunim shares his treasures of knowledge in this wonderful book.

Matt Haig Notes On A Nervous Planet

I haven’t read this book yet, but it has amazing reviews, so I am sure this is going to be great! Matt Haig suffered severe mental health issues. It is lovely that there are books like this to aid in feeling happy during this crazy and frantic world we live in.

I hope you enjoyed these mental health book recommendations! Let me know if there are any others you would suggest also!
